The Constitution of India provides for 'reasonable restrictions' on Fundamental Rights. In this context, consider the following statements regarding the determination of 'reasonableness':
The reasonableness of a restriction is determined by the courts considering the facts of each case, the object of the restriction, public interest, and prevailing social needs and values.
If Parliament declares a restriction to be 'reasonable', the courts cannot subject it to judicial review.
All statutory restrictions imposed on Fundamental Rights are automatically presumed to be reasonable.
Reasonableness is determined solely on the basis of the administrative convenience of the government.

Explanation
Under Articles 19(2) to 19(6) of the Indian Constitution, the State is empowered to impose reasonable restrictions on certain fundamental rights. The courts make the final determination regarding the reasonableness of any such restriction. In doing so, the courts consider factors such as the objective of the restriction, its necessity, public interest, the balance (proportionality) between the restriction and the objective, and prevailing social needs and values. A restriction does not become immune to judicial review merely because Parliament has declared it reasonable, nor is every statutory restriction automatically deemed reasonable. Similarly, administrative convenience alone is not a sufficient ground to justify the reasonableness of a restriction.
